Granby and Sutton Events Committee organised a village barbeque on July 12th that was well attended on a warm summer evening. Entertainment was provided by Graham Johnson and his band and matched the mood perfectly. The entertainment continued with Cas’s disco as a surprising number of people took to the dance floor. Children made good use of the bouncy castle and adults enjoyed the excellent bar.

The barbeque and the bar struggled to meet the demand of hungry and thirsty residents but great efforts on the part of volunteers meant that supplies kept going until we sold out just before the end of the event. The success of the event means that we have funds to promote other social activities in the villages.

A big thank you to Adie Whalley, Loz Shore, Su Kennedy, Graham Johnson, Lee (for bouncy castle), the Marquis of Granby, Barbara Nightingale, the Parish Council and the events committee

Scarecrows 2009

Once again residents came up trumps with a diverse and creative collection of scarecrows that brightened up Granby and Sutton for a week in July. This year the theme was films and entries included characters from horror, comedy, science fiction and musicals. The number of Entries was down slightly on last year but the quality was just as apparent.

The judging took place on the 12th July and prizes were awarded at the village barbeque on the same date. The winning entry, for the second year running, was the Hickling family with Harry Potter in Sutton. Mary Moulds was runner up with her Mary Poppins scarecrow. Keep your eyes open for news of the competition next summer.
